Wingla Dada was born on 2nd January 1966 at Cherbourg, an Aboriginal Reserve on Wakka Wakka Land in South East Queensland, his Mother being from the Kaialie Tribe. Wingla Dada
was taught traditional Aboriginal Art and Culture by his Father Jim (*Boongar")
and his Uncles. He has developed his own striking style over the years,
mainly using the four basic "Earth” colours in his paintings.
The work of Wingla Dada has been exhibited around the World and he is also well known
for his famous murals on numerous walls at schools where he has taught
Aboriginal Art.
Wingla Dada is regarded by many as the best ever Aboriginal Artist to
transpose the legendary Dreamtime stories into paintings. He is also
being commissioned by a number of Australian Cities and Shire Councils
to paint the Aboriginal stories surrounding the background and history
of notable places in their areas.
Amongst
Wingla Dada's many notable Awards he has received, he prides himself in being
awarded the prestigious Queensland Native Artists' Award in 1988 (by
NAIDOC).
